This 2-day course is taking place at Shortlanesend Village Hall, just outside Truro (TR4 9DU), on the 4th and 11th July 2024. Starting at 9am and finishing by 5pm on both days.
Delegates from primary care should attend both days, but social care staff, who will not require the session on ECGs, may leave at 1pm on the second day.
Audience
This course is designed for health care assistants working in primary care and nursing homes, as well as registered nurses who might need a refresher. It is ideal as an entry level course for staff who need to develop their basic clinical skills to deliver safe and quality care to patients.
Learning Outcomes
- Undertaking physiological measurements [temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure (manual and electronic), oxygen saturation and conscious level.
- Understand the procedure of venepuncture and obtain blood samples.
- To understand the principles of ECG monitoring.
- To be able to undertake a 12-lead ECG.
- To recognise a normal ECG recording.
Delegates will receive a package of learning materials prior a week before the course start and will be asked to review this prior to attending.
Delegates will be asked to complete a supervised practice in their places of work prior independent practice. A checklist of supervision will be made available to supervisors. Once this is complete, they will be able to complete these skills independently. We may contact your manager to facilitate this.
