Supporting Community Pharmacy in Cornwall
Kernow Health is commissioned to provide dedicated support to community pharmacy across Cornwall. We work in partnership with community pharmacists and Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC) to develop practical, supportive programmes that strengthen the workforce, with a particular focus on recruitment, retention and workforce sustainability.
Our approach is led by the needs of community pharmacists. We work collaboratively to listen, respond and co‑design support that is realistic, flexible and aligned to the pressures and priorities of frontline pharmacy teams.
Workforce Development and Professional Support
As part of this commitment, Kernow Health is developing a range of programmes to help community pharmacies attract, train and retain staff, ensuring teams feel confident, supported and able to thrive while continuing to deliver high‑quality patient care.
We are introducing Independent Prescriber (IP) Communities of Practice in each Integrated Care Area. These groups will be facilitated by a community pharmacist and will provide a supportive space to share learning, experience and best practice, helping independent prescribers build confidence, maintain competence and feel connected to peers.
PTPT Support Programme
Kernow Health will be offering a comprehensive Pre‑registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Support Programme to community pharmacists who are awarded the NHS England PTPT grant. This support programme will be open to all community pharmacists who are successful in their funding applications and is designed to provide structured, practical and wellbeing‑focused support throughout the training period.
Our PTPT programme will support pharmacies with recruitment, induction, educational supervision and ongoing placement support, helping to create a positive training experience for both learners and pharmacy teams.
The application window for the NHSE PTPT training programme has now closed. Further updates will be shared when the next application round opens, which is expected to be in the autumn.
Kernow Health is committed to working alongside community pharmacists and the LPC to support workforce development and build a strong, sustainable future for community pharmacy across Cornwall.
