Recruitment Support for Practices

Promote Your Vacancies through the Training Hub

To ensure your vacancy is promoted and benefits from this additional exposure, please upload your vacancy via the “Post a Job” link here.  Once your vacancy is uploaded to our page, it will also be added to the LMC vacancy page here.

Additional ways we can support your practice and staff are outlined below.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a valuable way of learning, developing new skills and gaining new qualifications while working in the role. There is an increasing list of roles within General Practice that can be recruited as an apprenticeship, and some of the more common are Receptionists, Health Care assistants and Nurse Associates. Apprenticeships are not just for school leavers or those new to General Practice; they can also provide valuable development opportunities for your existing teams.

Benefits to Practices

  • Widening the pool of prospective applicants for your vacancies – attracting candidates who might not previously considered or thought about a career in health or care.
  • Cost effective up- skilling and training your workforce in a wide variety of qualifications.
  • Addressing skills gaps and helping succession planning.

Further information can be found on our Apprenticeships webpage

Job Matching

In addition to dedicated recruitment for specific roles and professions across Cornwall, the Training Hub supports potential applicants seeking primary care positions. Once applicants register their interest with us, we collaborate with practice teams in Cornwall to identify potential future vacancies or introduce new roles to meet the demands of the practice.

If your practice would benefit from this type of support, please contact the Training Hub by emailing kernowhealthcic.workforce@nhs.net with “Job Matching” in the subject line.

Specific support - GPs

GP Retention Scheme

The GP Retention Scheme is a national initiative supported by NHS England, designed to provide financial and educational support to GPs who might otherwise consider leaving the profession.

GPs participating in the scheme can work up to a maximum of 4 sessions per week, totalling 208 sessions per year, which includes Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and educational support. For further information and guidance, please refer to the NHS England website or visit the British Medical Association (BMA).

NHS England Retained Doctors Scheme Guidance

The Training Hub, in partnership with Kernow Health CIC, can host GP retainers on behalf of practices in Cornwall. This allows GPs to work at a practice or across a Primary Care Network (PCN).

For GPs looking to re-enter practice, the Training Hub, in collaboration with NHS England, provides a comprehensive support package to facilitate their return to the workplace.

Further information can be found via NHS England GP returner scheme or on our dedicated Employment Support for Individuals here.

Testimonial

Our first International GP, DR Peter Hobza, had this to say about his experience;

“My name is Dr Pete Hobza; I originally did my GP training in the UK but had moved overseas to Canada to practice as a GP for the last five years. We decided to return to the UK for family reasons. We chose the Southwest as it met our desire for a fun and beautiful place to raise our family of four kids; and it has certainly met our expectations in this regard. Planning our return, I contacted the NHS recruitment team early on and they were supportive throughout; they recommended and enrolled me in the IGPR scheme to help me get back into UK General Practice. Completing IGPR in Cornwall has been a wonderful and supportive experience and I would encourage any international GP’s out there considering practicing in the UK to learn about it. The scheme has a well protected educational and training focus that allowed me to get up to speed with daily practice at a pace that suited my learning needs as I progressed through the scheme. As well, there is thorough professional and helpful financial support which helped greatly with our transition back to the UK. Colleagues at my placement surgery, my supervisors, and folks at my contractual employer Kernow Health CIC have all been super supportive and proactive in helping me successfully enter, progress, and complete the IGPR programme. Our family has found the right balance between work and lifestyle here in the Southwest; we feel lucky to have found a very kind, relaxed, and welcoming community here in the Southwest. The IGPR scheme has been a great programme and network of support for me to re-integrate and re-orientate myself back into UK General Practice, I feel very fortunate to have been able to complete the scheme in Cornwall.  I could not recommend it more highly to any international GP’s out there considering a career move to the UK”
