Reflections from the 2026 Cornwall GP Recruitment Fair

14th July, 2026

The Cornwall Primary Care Training Hub welcomed newly qualified GPs and International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to this year’s GP Recruitment Fair, providing an opportunity to explore career opportunities, connect with local practices and discover the benefits of living and working in Cornwall.

Held annually, the event is designed to support clinicians at the beginning of their careers while showcasing the wide range of opportunities available across Cornwall’s general practice workforce. Attendees were able to meet representatives from practices across the county, learn more about current vacancies and gain valuable insight into life as a GP in Cornwall.

Alongside rewarding career opportunities, the event highlighted Cornwall’s unique lifestyle offer, including its stunning coastline, close-knit communities, rich heritage, outdoor pursuits and excellent work-life balance.

Supporting Early-Career GPs

The programme featured a variety of workshops and information sessions aimed at supporting doctors as they take their next career steps.

Sessions included:

  • The First Five Programme, which provides support and guidance for GPs in their first five years of practice.
  • International Medical Graduate support, covering practical advice on visas, career pathways and settling into work in the UK.
  • Partnerships

The event also created valuable networking opportunities, enabling attendees to speak directly with employers and gain a better understanding of the diverse career options available across Cornwall.

Positive Feedback from Practices

Practices from across the county praised the event for its ability to bring together talented clinicians and prospective employers.

Dom Cook, Digital Transformation Manager at Bosvena and Three Harbours PCN, said:

“It’s our fifth time here at the GP Recruitment Fair; it works for us, which is why we keep coming back. Last year, off the back of the GP Recruitment Fair, we recruited an Advanced Nurse Practitioner Prescriber.”

Dr Sowden, GP Partner at Saltash Health Centre, said:

“The event is a good opportunity to meet people we wouldn’t usually meet. We have had interesting conversations today. We recruited at this event three years ago and they are still working as a salaried GP with us now.”

Dan Haghani, GP Partner at Carn to Coast and Out of Hours Sessional GP at Kernow Health, said:

“This event is a great opportunity to speak to newly qualified GPs about unscheduled care and our recruitment opportunities.”

Looking Ahead

The GP Recruitment Fair continues to play an important role in attracting and retaining talented clinicians in Cornwall, helping to strengthen the county’s primary care workforce and support the delivery of high-quality patient care.

A huge thank you goes to the Cornwall Primary Care Training Hub team and all the participating practices for making this year’s event another success. Through collaborative events like this, Cornwall is continuing to invest in and support the future of general practice.
