Primary care plays an important role in providing support and care to the four million people in the UK living with and beyond cancer. The cancer story is changing, with cancer now considered a long-term condition (NCSI 2010). We believe that we can build confidence and knowledge enabling primary care to take an active role in managing cancer as a long-term condition and in a holistic way, helping to support patients to live well not just longer.
This will be the 11th course to be held in Cornwall. Many practices in Cornwall have gained a cancer champion through this course. This can also make a difference in the delivery of QOF.
The course looks at all aspects of cancer from prevention to end of life. It looks at the effectiveness of good quality Cancer Care reviews and how improved ways of working in primary care can improve patient outcomes and reduce the demand on health resources.
Delivery of this course is by Consultants, CNS’s and other members of the cancer services team at RCHT. This course is open to all health professionals.
