The Cornwall Primary Care Training Hub have developed an exciting new cardiovascular pathway. It is aimed at health care professionals who care for patients with cardiovascular conditions in General Practice and will be of particular interest to those who have an active role in reviewing and managing patients on an annual basis.
There are six half day virtual sessions. Each session will focus on a particular condition in line with the NHS 10 year cardiovascular disease ambitions plan.
These half day sessions can be accessed as stand-alone modules. However, we would encourage you to follow the sessions through for full benefit. You can find full details of the pathway in the programme flyer.

Session 3: Atrial Fibrillation
This session, delivered via MS Teams, will focus on the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of Atrial Fibrillation in Primary Care. A current ‘hot topic’, Atrial Fibrillation forms part of the ABC trio in the NHS 10-year CVD ambitions plan, along with blood pressure and cholesterol.
In this session, you will review the pathophysiology of Atrial Fibrillation, understand the importance of performing a manual pulse at every opportunity and take the next steps when abnormality is detected. You will be able to identify signs and symptoms of the condition, understand the diagnosis process and recognise the immediate and long-term risks of uncontrolled AF. You will then look at the medications and the non-pharmacological treatments available.
This session will be run by Dr Rosie Heath. Rosie comes with a wealth of experience as a GPWSI in Cardiology and National speaker on AF and Heart Failure. She is the Devon CVD champion working with the cardiac network and ICS.
This meeting will be sponsored by a Pharma company – tbc. They will have not initiated this meeting and will have had no input into the content, programme or organisation of this educational meeting. At the start of the webinar, they will deliver a 10 minute promotional product presentation.
