Appreciating the need to maintain confidentiality is essential for all staff working in the healthcare sector. It is essential that all staff understand what is meant by confidentiality and how it is intrinsically linked to the eight Caldicott principles. In doing so, staff will grasp the need to protect the information to which they have access.
Objectives
- Learn the eight Caldicott principles and how to apply them in practice
- Understand the legislation associated with Caldicott and confidentiality
- Learn the roles of the Caldicott guardian, Caldicott lead and individuals’ roles and responsibilities
- Gain an understanding of the duty of confidence and confidentiality principles
- Learn about the NHS confidentiality model
- Appreciate what is meant by the terms legal duty of confidence and abuse of privilege
